Installing 8 Nest Protect 2 – Wired version … in about 90 minutes. – I have been eyeing the Nest Protect now since it came out about 2 years ago. Like most I simply hate my smoke detectors. Random low-battery chirping, ear piercing function test… getting up on a ladder at least twice a year to change batteries wether they need it or not… you get the idea. My smoke detectors were approaching the 10 year threshold which is the “end of life” for a smoke detector and I knew I would need to be replacing all of them.

Easy Install, Great Saftey Features – I’ve had Nest Protects in past houses and I’ve been fortunate to not ever need to use them. When we renovated a 1950’s house down to the studs we put 5 of these in our house and a Nest Thermostat. Well painters were here one day and I was an hour away from home on my way to visit my brother. He bought a new house so I happened to have my GPS on and the smoke alarms went off. My GPS (Google Maps) re-routed me back to home and my phone is dinging like crazy. My husbands phone did the same thing. It immediately shut down my HVAC system without me doing anything and alerted me to where the smoke was. Thankfully it wasn’t the real deal although my husband ran home to check, but after a test run I feel our home is better protected having these installed. The one thing I don’t love is that there aren’t enough bedroom labels and you can’t give them custom labels but that’s minor.

So far so good, hopefully never have to test for real – So far I am happy with this smoke/carbon monoxide detector. I bought the battery powered one, not hard-wired. Setup took me only a few minutes. The mounting bracket did require some new screw holes, but at least they cover the old holes. I connected it fine to the nest app on my phone. It took me a bit longer to figure out how to approve my husband’s phone to be able to share the account, but we got it done.

Love these detectors – One of the best smart detectors out there. I have a house full of wired detectors and as they go bad I am replacing with these.

Excellent product – Very high quality. I added this one to the other two I already have. They form a network so as to alert all occupants. My older two worked for four years before they ‘told’ me that the batteries needed to be replaced. They have audio announcements and a cell phone app.
