10 reviews for Honeywell Home Wi-Fi 7-Day Programmable Thermostat (RTH6580WF),

    1. T. G (verified owner)

Moderate setup; some rewiring required. App ok, smart integration meh. HUGE data usage – I bought this several months ago but waited until Christmas Eve to install it. (Not the best time if something goes wrong.) I already have a Honeywell non-Wifi programmable thermostat which has worked relatively well the past few years, and have installed programmable thermostats in other homes over the past 20-plus years. I had purchased a Wyze thermostat also but after seeing so many poor reviews and complaints, I shelved it in favor of a thermostat from an actual thermostat manufacturer.

    2. A. K (verified owner)

No battery backup – This smart theromostat work as expected. I was surprised that there is no battery backup inside. I live chatted with Honeywell and this is what was said. Not sure I compleatly understand but this might help others.

    3. A. O (verified owner)

Accurate and they work pretty well. Honeywell cloud software is glitchy at times – I bought two of these Honeywell thermostats because I want to be able to remotely control the climate in my home, mainly during road trips: to save energy while away and also so I set the temp on the way back so the house is comfortable upon my return. There is no way I would spend a mortgage payment on some fancy always-on LCD screen that “learns” and has tons of bells and whistles that just clutter my brain with a lot of uselessness. Setup was not exactly easy, but as long as you give yourself 15 minutes and follow the instructions, it’s pretty straight forward. You’ll set up an account with Honeywell’s MyTotalComfort-dot-com and then register your thermostat(s). You’ll need some of the paperwork that comes with your thermostat that includes a unique serial number (or possibly MAC address.)

    4. L. L (verified owner)

      – Unsure why the “rate features” included a “touch screen” rating. There is no touch screen.

    5. H. C (verified owner)

      – I found it extremely hard to separate the thermostat from it’s backing plate (connections plate), almost felt like I was going to break some plastic part while trying to pull the 2 pieces apart. Also found that if you want to use the programming features (days, eves, night settings) you need to be connected to your WiFi as the thermostat does not have a battery backup to maintain the internal clock during a power failure. It updates the clock once power is restored and WiFi re-connects. The thermostat will still function without a clock, just won’t follow program mode. The ambient (room) temperature sensor is very slow to change and as a result the displayed reading is very slow to update. I only discovered this as I was bench testing the thermostat prior to installation. This could be a design feature to prevent temperature fluctuations from air registers or appliances from altering the run cycle of your heating or cooling source. In actual use the house temperature tracks the thermostat setting quite closely. Note that temperature settings are changed in 0.5 Celsius increments. The WiFi remote control and it’s APP work very well but there is a slight delay when you submit a change (up to 5 seconds) before the thermostat reacts. The change is immediate if done at the thermostat itself. One thing I don’t like is the inability to change the hysteresis (on-off-on) around the set temperature. For me this is more of an issue with cooling. Once the room reaches the temperature setting, the thermostat tends to run the A/C in short cycles to maintain that set point temperature. This is not optimum for reducing the house humidity as the A/C does not run long enough to form condensate. I would have preferred a directly adjustable hysteresis for both heat and cool operations rather than have this programmed in by Honeywell. It does result in the house tracking the temperature set point quite closely but at the loss of de-humidification. This thermostat does not have geo sensing and the only ‘smart’ feature it has is that it will sample how long it takes your heating system to respond to a program temperature change, so if you program for a morning wake up setting it will activate your heating or A/C ahead of time to ensure that your house is at that temperature when you wake up. It does have fairly good program settings to adapt to most types of heating/cooling systems so it should work well with just about any type. Mine has been in use now since early March 2020 and has worked well with no glitches. I am running my thermostat on 24Vdc and both my WiFi and thermostat are on no-break DC PWR so I can always monitor my house temperature when I am away even if commercial power fails.
