Replaced another brand… works great – So I broke out all of our Christmas decorations — and I had several iHome devices that I only use during the holidays as they are already named, scheduled, and ready to just “go”…. went to use them and they discontinued their app service and force me to use the Apple home kit which has never worked consistently. So I picked up a few of these to replace the ones I have on a Black Friday deal. Since I already have several Kasa switches and plugs in use, I already knew the procedure to add it to my repertoire of Kasa devices I already own. Within 10 min I had two devices setup and named. I like the independent control of the outlets (I bought the outdoor 2-socket units) and once setup, put them into service. Used the app to turn them on and they simply just work. I then took another 5-min to setup a schedule to turn them on and off and done. I checked last night and they turned off on schedule.

Simply works and works simply – These switches are easy to install on your wifi and work seamlessly with Alexa. Our outdoor tree lights are standard C7 incandescent bulbs. With this plug, they come on at sunset and can go off at dawn or whenever you wish. And you can dim them, which I love. Want them on or off outside the schedule? Just ask Alexa! Want them dimmer? Ask Alexa! Don’t have Alexa? You should, but it still works by using Kara’s app on your phone. But it’s much more fun to set up a routine on Alexa. 🙂 We say “Alexa, Merry Christmas” to turn it on, and “Alexa, Bah Humbug” to turn it off. Original? I don’t know, but it makes us smile. Have fun!

Much better than WeMo – I’ve been a WeMo user for years and have many indoor plugs. When WeMo came out with their outdoor plug (that is similar to this Kasa plug) about two years ago, I bought one. But from day one I’ve had an issue with sunset rules. I want the plug to turn on my landscape lights at sunset and when I first enable the rule, it does just that. But then each day it slips, turning on the landscape lights well past sunset, anywhere from a few minutes to almost an hour after sunset. The really strange thing is the WeMo iPhone app says the rule is active at sunset but the lamp doesn’t turn on. I have the lights set to turn off at a specific time and it does that on time, every time, so I know the unit can keep proper time. My WiFi connection is fine, I can turn on and off the outdoor lights without a problem from the app. I have indoor lamps that turn on at sunset and they perform perfectly, right on time. I contacted WeMo support and they sent me another unit under warranty, same issue. They escalated the issue but never were able to resolve it.

Husband loves it! – When I started buying items to turn our home more towards being a smart home my husband was leery. I’ve always been a gadget.. freak. I dony go out and buy any old thing. I research the items. I don’t want a system installed by some alarm company, I want a custom setup – which means watching for incompatibility. The few items I’ve installed haven’t impacted him much so he wasn’t impressed, except that they worked & weren’t a waste of money. However, since he was going to soon put up Christmas lights and any timers we had he hated. Mainly because he was worried about fires when we were away for more than a couple of hours. This caught my eye. A timer (so he wouldn’t have to run out in his pj’s in icy cold weather to unplug it), an outlet designed for outdoor use, and it has remote access. I didn’t rell him I ordered it. But when I showed it to him and got it set up and he saw how easy it was to use, well, he’s a big fan. We’ve had no problems with connectivity. It works easily with Alexa, and can even connect with the persnickety SmartThings on my Samsung phone! Not that I need that. Between Alexa & the Kasa app I’ve got complete control, as does my husband. Well, he uses me to do any configuring. I can’t convince him to install Alexa on his phone. *sigh*

Easy to setup, reliable performance, lots of custom timing settings available – I have a lot of outdoor lighted holiday decorations, and wanted a way to control them without having to go outside and run around to a bunch of different outlets. I’ve used Kasa before for indoor plugs, but this was my first time using an outdoor smart plug. I was worried because I’ve had issues with wifi connectivity for other outdoor devices, but these plugs were super easy to setup on the Kasa app and I never ran into any wifi connection issues throughout their use. I like that each outlet can be controlled individually, and the app offers a lot of different timing options: a simple immediate on/off, custom short term (“turn this on in 30 minutes”) or long term (“turn this on at 5pm and off at 10pm every weekday”) scheduling options, and I also like the ability to choose “sunrise” or “sunset” as your start/stop times (the app updates this day-to-day so no need to change the schedule yourself as daylight savings kicks in). It also easily works with Alexa voice control if desired.
