Back Cover is a B_ _ _H! – Back cover is very hard to remove to install the battery! And the unit will not work without the battery, even if it is plugged into a working outlet. Thank God for a user answer to this issue who said to use FINGERNAILS to assist with opening. I was about to pitch this thing into the street!

This thing saved our lives. – We have a wood stove, and propane appliances. Since I had the virus over a year ago, my smell is off at best. I bought this detector specifically because it had the gas detector too. We have a simple carbon monoxide detector that did it’s job, but we thought it was faulty and pulled the battery. This detector went off and we could see the ppm on the meter going up. We knew we had a problem. Problem was we were letting our wood stove burn out, and running the vent over the range. It created just enough pull to keep the wood stove from venting properly. No smoke in the house, so we had no idea what was happening. Thank God for our purchase of this kidde nighthawk. Another twist was we were keeping our 4 grandchildren this day.

Probably works – Suspected a gas leak. Energy company said Yes, and shut my system down. Furnace company couldn’t find the leak, but replaced a safety valve in the furnace. I still smell gas in a particular location, but not real strong. Bought this, while trying to get furnace company to send someone that has a working nose, or will use gas sniffer at the exact location I specify. So far, this device hasn’t detected anything, but it is not located exactly at the suspected leak location, nor should it be.

Good reliable unit – These detectors are UL approved, most aren’t, many insurance companies consider a non UL detector as nothing

An important safety check – I bought several of these over the past few years. We discovered a crack in the iron pipe that supplied natural gas to our furnace. That was quite distressing. So I mounted one on the furnace, and another above it. When we moved and I had propane brought in for a new range, I place one on the floor near the range, another at the bottom of the stairs (propane sinks). Everything was clear. But I could smell gas. I thought I was losing my mind. Eventually found a leak outside, it was difficult to isolate, but it reinforced my conviction to keep sensors around.
