Great Robot with baffling design flaw – I’ve had this guy for a little over a year now. My wife named him Alfred. He has performed very well overall. We have three dogs and two cats, and this guy keeps the tumbleweeds under control. He handles carpets and hardwood with ease. He does have poor impulse control from time to time though – He’ll decide to eat the odd sock or dog toy, knowing full well he shouldn’t, but I can’t fault him for that. He is very good about emptying himself out, and even though the bags seem small, we maybe change them once every 8-10 weeks (with all those critters). We’ve had to replace his rollers twice so far (ProTip: get the Roomba brand rollers…the off-brands are less expensive, but they fall apart very quickly), and the same goes for the little spinny side brush. The maintenance packs with the bags/rollers/brushes/filters are very convenient.

– I was so disappointed by this product. I am using it to clean a well lit 15 x 20 ft rectangular space with 4 tables, two shelves, and 2 chairs. So far the robot has been unable to complete a single run, unable to return to base, and failed to map the floor. It went around the leg of one table at least 10 times in a row and started turning about 50+ circles 6 inches in front of the home base until I stopped it. I either have a defective unit or this has got to be the dumbest thing. This is my 8th robot vacuum. over the past 10 years. I was an early adopter and have tried iRobot initially and switched to Neato after a bad experience with the iRobot Scooba. With the home base of the S9+, I was really excited and decided to give iRobot another try but it’s by far the worst. It’s even worse than the last iRobot I bought 5 years ago! It simply cannot find the base a single time! It takes an hour to map the smallish rectangular room and ha not ever finished! It must be defective. I just cannot imagine that iRobot has become worse than it was 5 years ago??? Now I have to go through the trouble of packing it up and sending it back. So sad!

– The idea is wonderful, but the device just Would. Not. Work.

– The first machine was defective and replaced. The replacement is struggling to map the house and had and may continue to have trouble finding home base. The manufacturer and I continue to discuss the problems. I may have to return this “wonder whiz” machine as a lost cause. (My $250, 5 year old 600 series unit continues to plod on without trouble! I may have to return the new s9 because it takes me more time to operate it than a hand vacuum. I haven’t yet had a full house sweep without trouble. Philip F Stuart
